Owner, Pam, with daughter, Amanda (store manager), and grandson
Gondwana's mission is the same today as it was in 1995: to promote social justice and seek out products that are ecologically sustainable. We do this by purchasing products through Fair Trade organizations and other socially conscious sources, by supporting small companies manufacturing in the US, and by purchasing products that are eco-sustainable.
Inspired by African art 15 years ago, owner Pam Peterson envisioned a store that would honor diverse cultures all over the world. "Gondwana" was a super-continent that existed 160 million years ago and held South America, Africa, Australia and Antarctica in its borders. Although the influence of the southern hemisphere is still evident at Gondwana today, the store has grown by leaps and bounds and has changed dramatically since 1995.
We began carrying women's clothing in 1996, and the majority of our clothing manufacturers are small businesses operating in the US and Canada. We sell women's contemporary, high quality apparel and accessories made from natural fibers, including hemp and organic cotton, tencel and silk. We offer Eileen Fisher, FLAX, Earth Creations, Tianello and Cut-Loose, and jeans that fit real women by French Dressing and Not Your Daughter's Jeans. We also carry hemp baby and children's tees and have the best selection of scarves, bags, and socks around. Our spirited collection of sterling silver, stone, glass and beaded jewelry adds the perfect touch for the apparel we sell. Our experienced sales staff will help you look your best whether you're the mother of the bride, need an outfit for work, or are just having fun.
